AFL London is exploring the introduction of a Masters-level football programme, and we’re looking to the community to help shape what it becomes.
Designed for men and women aged 35 and over, AFL Masters will provide an opportunity to return to (or discover) Aussie Rules Football.
Whether you’re a former player, an expat missing the game, or simply looking to stay active and try something new, this initiative is being built with you in mind.
Why Masters Football?
Stepping away from playing footy doesn’t mean losing your love for the game.
Work commitments, injuries, or changes in lifestyle (as well as the pace and demands of the game) can make weekly football less appealing. However, the desire to stay involved and play some form of footy often remains.
AFL Masters is about bridging that gap.
It creates an environment where:
Players can return without the same physical demands
New players can get involved in a welcoming setting
Participation is adapted to different fitness levels and experience
Globally, Masters AFL has proven to keep players involved in the sport for longer and now there’s an opportunity to bring that experience to London.
What Could It Look Like?
At this stage, nothing is fixed and that’s intentional. We want to build a programme that reflects what people here in London (and the UK more broadly) actually want.
This could include:
Flexible formats (small-sided, modified rules, or full-field)
Different levels of contact and intensity
Sessions that fit around work and life commitments
A balance between social and competitive football
The goal is simple: create something people enjoy and want to keep coming back to.
Help Shape Masters Footy in London
We are currently gathering expressions of interest to understand:
The level of demand across London
Preferred formats and playing styles
When and where sessions should take place
This feedback will directly shape how AFL Masters is delivered.
If there is enough interest, the next step will be to run some training session and scratch matches, with the potential for a round-robin tournament later in the year.
The aim is to give players the chance to get involved early and help refine the format.
