Grand Final Day: Glory, Heartbreak and One Hell of a Curtain Call
And with that the 2026 AFL London season is done. A fantastic finals day featuring four clubs across the five competitions, saw two tight contests that had you guessing the winners until the end, one close but always in control game, one blowout and one massive shock. One streak continued and one streak was ended. Game 1 saw the London Swans take on the Wandsworth Demons and it was the Swans who came out comfortable winners, in a game temporarily halted due to a horrible inj

Preliminary Finals: Dynasties Fall, Grand Finalists Rise
So now we know, after a long hot day at Hackney, the Preliminary Finals saw wins for the Demons x2, the Swans, Lions and Giants, so lets take a look at how they panned out Men's Socials The Demons had put the Ealing Emus to the sword in the regular season, but this was one of the best games of the day, with the result in doubt right up to the middle of the final quarter. The Emus started positively and had the Demons pinned back for much of the opening exchanges but without c

Elimination Finals: Farewells, Fireworks and Finals Footy
If Saturday saw the London Swans and the Demons descend on Reading then Sunday it was the Wildcats and Hawks in town at Peckham Rye with a little bit of Sussex Swans thrown in for good measure Opening proceedings was the Men's Socials clash between the Ealing Emus (3rd in the ladder) and the Sussex Swans (4th in the ladder). The sides had met just a couple of weeks earlier with the Swans coming out on top by a eight points, and it was clear from the outset that we had another

Qualifying Final: Kingsmeadow and the March to the Big Dance
Finals weekend baby, seven games of glorious AFL footy with the Qualifying and Elimination Finals. Having left early to get to Kings Meadow, the stunning home of the Reading Kangaroos, a tree-lined oasis on the banks of the Thames, I was able to make a quick pit stop to Tesco for a “natural” break. The sights and sounds from cubicle 1 will never leave me. After a few minute to compose myself it was off to Kings Meadow for four games - basically seeing the London Swans and Wan

Round 11: Giants, Grit & a Touch of Factor 50
It was with some trepidation I headed off to the Land of the Giant for the final day of the 2026 regular season. Smothered in Nivea factor 50, partially for sun protection, partially to hope the fragrant smell would prevent anyone sniffing out the "blood of an Englishman" - and of course missing just the tiniest part of the body meaning a burnt outer knee. Why do I bother! The factor 50 wasn't needed (well it was for the sun) as the Giants, as one would expect were fantastic

Round 10: Stars, Stripes & Sudden Finals Hype
Ah the 4th of July, American Independence Day, but more importantly the penultimate regular season round of this years AFL London season. Whilst for some the action was taking place in the North, representing England, Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales, Croatia and others in the Euro Cup, for others it was a chance to seal finals places, or set themselves up for a big last week, and for others it was a chance to represent their club in The Pride Parade. The round actu

Round 9: Lemony Snicket Meets AFL London
So for a brief period on Saturday I turned into Lemony Snicket, where one decision threw the whole trip to Waterhall into chaos. The mishaps meant I arrived shortly after the opening ball up, and when I got there goals from Tom Connolly and Jonathon Rhodes had put the Ealing Emus in the driving seat and they took a comfortable 2.3.15 to 0.1.1 advantage into the first quarter break. The Swans were positive out of the blocks in quarter 2 and a forced numerous behinds without hi

Round 8: Blowouts, Battles and a Bit of Everything!
Week 8 of the regular season and I packed up the car with numerous seats and bottles of water and made the trip up the A3 to Clapham Common, for a full day of Demons action. Visiting today were the North London Lions for clashes in the Men's Premiership and Women's Conference; whilst the Wimbledon Hawks rocked up for Women's Premiership, Men's Socials and Men's Conference action. I was hopeful for five tight encounters, and particularly looked forward to the Men's Conference

Round 7: Swans, Stunners and a Severe Talking To
So for Week 7 of the regular season I packed the equipment into the car and made the relatively short and well travelled journey to Motspur Park and the Sir Joseph Hood Memorial Playing Fields. A bit of traffic on the road, and a sat-nav that decided on some weird way to get me to the ground meant I arrived twenty minutes before the first bounce, but still in time for an irate Richard Beal - to give me a stern telling off for recent comments. Don't think I will ever recover f

Midway Madness: Round 6 Keeps Everyone Guessing
As we hit the midway stage of the regular season, it is all to play for in our five competitions, but before we take a look at where things stand, what about the Week 6 fixtures. Proceedings opened on the Thursday night at Chiswick Rugby Club when the West London Wildcats entertained the Wimbledon Hawks in the Women's Premiership. A low scoring opening quarter saw the sides trade behinds, and it was the Wildcats who had their noses in front at the break, going in 0.4.4 to 0.2

Round 5: The Great Reading Revival
Wow, what a day, despite the best efforts of the M25, doing what it does best, I bounced into Kingsmeadow fifteen minutes before the start to watch an absolute classic between the Reading Kangaroos and the North London Lions in the Men's Socials. The Roos had lost their opening couple of games but had been far more competitive than in recent seasons, and having seen the numbers they were putting out on Instagram during the week, it looked as though they were going to give it

Round 4: Lions, Demons & Photo Finishes
What a Saturday, five games that could have gone either way, and some fabulous performances from lots of players. I was up at Bounds Green and the Oliver Tambo Recreation Ground, home to the North London Lions and two entertaining games between them and the West London Wildcats, plus a little bit of pre-game Auskick. The opening game saw the table topping Women's Conference North London Lions, with three wins from three going into the game and an improving, hard-working West

From Birmingham to the VFLW: Massie & Hibberd Make History
Two British players, Lucy Massie and Freya Hibberd, have taken a major step in their AFL journeys after making their VFLW debuts in Round 1 on Saturday 16 May. Their rise from university sport in England to state-level football in Australia is a clear example of the growing pathway between the UK and Australian game. Both players began their AFL journeys at the University of Birmingham. Massie first picked up the sport for fun after competing in athletics and badminton, while

Round 3: Roaring Lions and Resilient Cats
For Gameweek 3 I was off to sunny Dukes Meadows for a five game stint with the West London Wildcats and their various opponents. The Wildcats, by their own high standards, were off the pace in all competitions last season, except of course for their fabulous all-conquering Women's Premiership side, so it was going to be interesting to see what the off-season did for them. For the first game of the day the Ealing Emus were looking to build on their Week 2 success when they hos

Round 2 - ANZAC Day, Sunshine & Big Scoreboards
The 25th April (Anzac Day) is always a special day in the calendar for any Australian or New Zealander as they come together to commemorate the lives of soldiers who have fallen in battle. The day itself, for any Brits/RoW's reading this is significant as it marks the day the ANZACs landed at Gallipoli in the First World War. My trip to the London Swans was a privilege as it allowed me to witness the memorial to the fallen and an impeccably observed minutes silence. Last seas

Champions Abroad, Chaos at Home: AFL London 2026 Gets Underway
Whilst the Wandsworth Demons Men's Premiership winning side were in Lyon, picking up their third consecutive Champions League title (courtesy of a thrilling extra time win over the Edinburgh Bloods), the West London Wildcats Women's Premiership winners were finishing third in their Champions League competition (behind Cork Vikings - themselves recording a remarkable fifth successive win), and the Wimbledon Hawks women were beating all-comers up in Scotland (Cambuslang Rugby C
