Almost 250 people packed the Little Creatures brewery in Kings Cross to get behind the Australian Bushfire Fundraiser appeal earlier this month.
Hosted by AFL London and Little Creatures, the trivia night was a great success raising about £4,700 for the New South Wales Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS).
Players and supporters of the various AFL London clubs came down for the trivia where they competed for a range of great prizes, raffle and silent auction.
AFL London decided to team up with Little Creatures to host the fundraiser so the expat Aussies could help the bushfire fundraiser from the other side of the world.
On the night, people queued up for a typical snag in bread with tomato sauce and enjoyed the Aussie beers on offer.
The hotly contested trivia saw people answering questions about topics on everything from sport to politics and film.
Some of the prizes up for grabs included Little Creatures beers and tickets to its beer school, cash prizes and even a donut maker.
The silent auction was also hotly contested with huge bids on items such as, signed footy tops, Contiki travel vouchers, Cosmesure beauty packages, chiropractic sessions from Chiro London and tickets to the England vs Italy game at Wembley in March.
Some of the raffle prizes included a Busabout voucher, Dishoom voucher, a SANZA hamper, Everyman Cinema tickers and Fevertree gin and tonic mixer packages.
The success of the evening overwhelmed organisers including the management at Little Creatures with the event selling out so quickly that hundreds of people missed out on tickets.
“We knew that people wanted to support the bushfire fundraiser efforts back home, but we had no idea that it would this successful,” said AFL London co-chairs, Marianna Graham and Sarah Howell.
“We’re very proud of the AFL London community who came along and were very generous on the night. Everyone had so much fun and we’re thrilled with its success.”
