Sussex Swans Join AFL London

The boys from the Sussex Swans will join this year's social division and are promising to bring a gritty style of play to the competition.

Club president, Laurie Diiorio, said the team is excited to join the London league because it will allow the players to test themselves at the highest level possible and will help to grow the Sussex Swans club.

"Joining the AFL London league is massive for us," he said. "We’ve been building our numbers in both the men’s and women’s teams over the past few years to form a strong club ready for this next challenge."Diiorio added joining a bigger league will expose the non-Aussien players to an 18-a-side game and get the Aussie players back to the footy they love playing."We're a good all-round team. We're gritty when we need to be but we can play fast and clean on a good day," he said.

The AFL London committee voted to allow Sussex Swans into the men's social division, with its co-chairs, Sarah Howell and Marianna Graham, welcoming the new addition."We're delighted Sussex is joining the league this year not only because it shows their club is going from strength to strength but that the London league is a highly coveted one to join," they said."We can't wait to see what they bring to the competition."

The Sussex Swans train at Hove Rugby Club and will host a small number of home games in Crawley during the men's social division during the 2020 season.
